Hi! My name is Ivory and I'm a singer-songwriter currently living in Cincinnati, Ohio. I'm raising funds to help with the last bits of post-production costs for a music video which will accompany my first release as a solo artist (coming later this year!).
I've been writing and performing with my husband for the last six years in our band Sungaze and I'm excited to explore a more heavily folk-influenced sound and more personal level of storytelling with this new project.
Where the Funds Will Go:
The last bit of post production needed for the video is cinematic color grading. Color grading is the part of video production that really takes things to the next level and it's a crucial step in creating a compelling story.
I'm super excited to be working with Sodalite Color, who have color graded videos for artists like Big Thief and Courtney Marie Andrews. $1,000 should cover all of these costs, and anything extra will be used for merch (I have some really cute designs planned for totes and sweatshirts!) or for PR for this first release.
More About the Solo Project:
I've struggled pretty extensively with my mental health over the last decade, specifically with obsessive compulsive disorder which for me manifests primarily as extreme health anxiety and fear of death. I can't tell you how many times I've been to the ER for no reason in the last few years.
While things have been more quiet on the music front, I've been doing a lot of work on this part of myself that not very many people see; a part that I have at times gone to great lengths to keep hidden. I'm realizing these struggles are more common than we think they are, and it's important to share them rather than ruminate.
The most helpful thing for me on my journey (besides exposure therapy) has been watching others who have struggled come out on the other side and turn the experience into something positive. A kind of guiding light for those to come. I recognize that this is a necessary step along my path and I'm ready to share my stories--the ones that led to these experiences, the ones I've told myself, and the ones I'm writing for my future.
The title of the new project and song are both a secret for now, but I can tell you that the music video is essentially a short-film and it centers around my journey with compound grief and the acceptance of death. I might be biased but I think it's a pretty moving piece of art and I'm excited to share it.
I'll be revealing the song/video title along with the solo project title in the near future! The first few releases will be happening in conjunction with Sungaze, so you can check out the website linked above or follow us on instagram to stay up to date. I will also be sharing updates here!
Thank you for reading, sharing, donating, etc! Every bit is helpful and deeply appreciated. For the love of art!
