My sister Lacey’s world has been turned completely upside down overnight.

Lacey is a single mom who works 2–3 jobs at a time just to stay afloat while raising my 5-year-old niece. On top of that, she has spent years helping others however she could — especially animals. She has watched and cared for countless dogs for free when families needed help, feeding and loving them like they were her own.

Recently, a tragic situation changed everything. A tenant’s dog attacked the tenant, causing serious injuries, resulting in animal control being called. Not only was the aggressive dog taken, but all of the dogs currently boarding in Lacey’s care — including her own beloved dogs — were removed as well.

During the investigation, officials also discovered dangerously high carbon monoxide levels in her home — nearly 6 times the safe limit — even though the detectors on both floors never went off. Because of this, Lacey and my young niece were immediately displaced from their home and forced into a hotel while repairs and inspections are addressed and she has lost her dogs.

In a matter of days, my sister has lost:

• Her livelihood
• Her home stability
• Her boarding business
• Access to her dogs and the dogs she was caring for

She is currently working closely with the city and doing everything possible to fix the situation and get back on her feet, but the costs are overwhelming and time is extremely limited. The biggest expense is the fees and requirements needed to bring ALL of the dogs back safely before they risk becoming available for adoption through the shelter system.

I wish I could do more physically, but I recently underwent eye surgery after a ruptured tear duct, so fundraising is the only way I can help her right now.

If you know Lacey, you know she would jeopardize her well being to help someone else. Now she truly desperately needs help herself.

Every donation — no matter how small — will go toward:

• Emergency housing costs
• Home repairs related to the carbon monoxide issue
• Fees and requirements to reclaim the dogs
• Helping Lacey rebuild her dog boarding business and stabilize her home for my niece

Please consider donating, sharing, or even just sending support. We are trying to bring this family — and all the pups — back home where they are loved and cared for and the time we have to do it is less then 30 days.

Thank you so much for reading and supporting my sister and my neice during one of the hardest moments of their lives.

We want to take a moment to sincerely thank everyone who has donated, shared, supported, and kept us in your thoughts so far. Because of your kindness, we are off to a strong start, and work on the home has already begun.

We are currently working against a deadline of the 23rd to raise enough funds to bring the dogs back home. Thankfully, the dogs have officially been cleared to return — now the biggest obstacle is covering the costs to make that happen. The majority of donations are going directly toward the fees required to bring them home from the city shelter.

Every donation, share, and word of support truly makes a difference and brings us one step closer to reuniting this family. Thank you for continuing to stand by us during such a difficult time.
