Update: Between generous donations and some hard work, the $37,000 bill is now down ro $10,000 which has been a huge blessing since the surgery was in September 2023 and it is now April 2024. Thank you to all who have donated. This battle is not easy and knowing that others are caring about this rare condition and the difficulties it can cause not just physically, but financially has given me encouragement and hope. All of your love and support have been greatly appreciated.
I was having issues at first with motion sickness even though I was not on a boat or in a car. It caused me to be unsteady. I then started hearing my voice sound like a kazoo in my head. It was so loud.. Then I heard my heard my heart beating . These were all happening at the same time. No break. I started hearing what sounded like sandpaper. A light scratching that started in this symphony of constant annoyance. I thought there was something in the walls of my home at first. Turned out it was my eyes moving. My neurologist was able to get me in with an ENT who had me get a CT scan done and there was a Superior semicircular canal dehiscence found. It is such a rare occurrence and not every neurosurgeon is trained to do the surgery. I was referred to UCDAVIS in Sacramento. I needed the Quality of my life to improve because I had become a recluse. I am usually very active in my community, helping the non-profit I am involved with, organize our community patriotic parades and Fireworks display on Independence day. I also help with the Fundraising events that help raise money for our local Cancer Treatment Center and our local Veterans organizations. I had to miss out this year because of the symptoms made it debilitating. I was able to get in with neurosurgeon at UCDAVIS and he had me do an oVEMP and cVEMP test done which further demonstrated to the neurosurgeon that I did in fact have the superior semicircular canal dehiscence. The best fix was to have the repair via middle cranial fossa approach via craniotomy. I ended up also having a Cerebrospinal Fluid leak when the neurosurgeon when in. He had to fix a dura tear that was there that was where the leak was at.
My portion is $35,000. That is after I talked to billing department. My portion was going to be $70,000. I have other medical issues I have to deal with like my Crohn's,
So if you are willing to help me to pay off my surgery, I would greatly appreciate it. I wbould love to return back to being active in my community and having my healing journey without the worry of the weight of the massive expense . I have private insurance so it is the cost after insurance pays their portion.
