Dear Friend,
My name is Vishal Kothuri, and I am a Life Scout with Troop 401 working toward the rank of Eagle Scout — the highest honor in Scouts BSA. To earn it, I am required to plan, lead, and complete a service project that gives back to a place that matters to my community. I chose the Hindu Temple of San Antonio, and I am writing to ask for your help.
Why This Project
The Hindu Temple of San Antonio is more than a place of worship. It is where families gather for festivals, where elders pass traditions to children, and where so many of us — myself included — have grown up celebrating who we are. Every weekend, hundreds of devotees climb the temple's steps to pray, to give thanks, and to find peace.
But for many of our elders and visitors with limited mobility, those same steps have become a barrier. I have watched grandmothers steady themselves against a wall and grandfathers pause halfway up, hoping for something to hold on to. There is currently no handrail to support them.
That is what I want to change.
What I Am Doing
For my Eagle Scout Service Project, I will design, fundraise for, and lead the installation of sturdy, code-compliant handrails at the Hindu Temple of San Antonio. I will:
Work with temple leadership to confirm the exact placement and design
Source quality materials that will last for decades
Recruit and lead a team of fellow Scouts, friends, and family volunteers
Oversee every phase of the project from planning through completion
This isn't just construction — it's leadership, service, and a permanent gift to a place that has given so much to so many.
How You Can Help
Every dollar you contribute goes directly to materials, supplies, and the safe completion of the project. Donations of any size make a real difference:
$25 helps cover fasteners, sealant, and finishing supplies
$50 contributes to safety equipment for our volunteer crew
$100 helps purchase a section of railing
$250+ supports a major portion of the structural materials
Donations of materials are also deeply appreciated — if you own or work for a company that could contribute lumber, metal, hardware, or labor, I would be honored to talk with you.
All funds raised are received in the name of the Hindu Temple of San Antonio, the beneficiary of this project. Any remaining funds at the end of the project will go to the temple, and receipts are available upon request.
What Your Gift Builds
When this project is complete, an elderly devotee will climb those steps with confidence. A young parent carrying a child will have something to steady themselves on. A visitor with a cane will no longer hesitate at the entrance.
That is the small, lasting kind of difference I want to make on my path to Eagle. And with your support, I can.
Thank You
