In 1977, UC Santa Barbara oarsman Richard Sundquist transferred to UC Davis and founded the UC Davis Men's Rowing team. Shortly thereafter, members of the team drove our very first racing shell all the way from the East Coast to West Sacramento to fully establish the Men’s Crew team. This wooden shell still hangs from the rafters of our boathouse, a testament to our origins and a reminder of the torch that we choose to carry as former and current UC Davis rowers.
Over the years, our boathouse has been home to Olympians, national athletes, entrepreneurs, and everyone in between. Dedication, hard work, and humility are carved into the foundation of our team, just as the names of the oarsmen who built our boathouse by hand are etched into the concrete we stand on. For all of us, this team has given us a second home, and a place where some of our closest friendships and fondest memories were formed. We humbly thank all of our alumni for their contributions in shaping us into the team we are today.
Every year, the team holds a twelve-hour nonstop rowing machine relay race, known as Ergathon, in order to raise money for racing and equipment costs. All proceeds go directly towards keeping us operational, on the water, and ready to race.
