This is Rebecca & her 14 yr. old son, Kalijah RedSky. Rebecca has been battling a severe auto-immune disease since the end of 2017, system sclerosis scleroderma, which is a skin issue, but it has affected her ability to swallow. At the height of the beginning years' battle, she spent a month in the hospital October 2018, where she received a feeding tube placement, saving her life! she's had a feeding tube since October 2018. Also included on the list are debilitating joint pain, renaud's & early menopause. She turned 40 in August.
Being a single mother, Becca's had the complicated task of being mom And dad to this sweet, kind, awesome little boy, who is now beginning to become a young man. I've been blessed these last 10 years I've known Becca & her family, to be a part their family first hand & see how kind & caring Kalijah is as he's grown. She is a great mother & her love can be seen in her son! A beautiful mama inside & out and an amazing son!
Kalijah aspires to be a filmmaker, a love his mama has encouraged & supported by enrolling him at Aspire Middle School, a private school that focuses on specific studies like filmmaking, robotics and survival courses. He dreams of having his film at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah someday soon!
Kalijah entered Missoula's 2nd Annual Nativz Got Talent Competition in 2022, where he took 1st place for his hilarious & unique parody of the popular song, Bad to the Bone, a must see!
Kalijah Loves music! Many different genres are on his lists, but his favorite is in the 80s decade, the movies too! Some of his favorite bands are Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin & Def Leppard.
Another of Kalijah's loves is Godzilla. His mama thought he was going to speak Japanese before he even spoke English, as this cool 3 yr. old loved to watch old school Godzilla flicks! His haul of figures has been one to impress, and he was blessed with a trip to Chicago in July of 2017, where he attended the annual Godzilla Festival, an experience of lifetime, and plans to go back again!
Becca worked in law as a paralegal for a decade, a career she loved, when she got sick. Now, her dream is to be a business owner, two of them to boot! The first is a Native Wear company, that will be 100% Native owned, employed, created & aspired & very community involved! The second company will be Healing Center that will provide a medical detox, a counseling staff to provide a range of choices that will result in the client's long-term healing success, a variety of counselors for clients to choose for their healing (male, female, generational, non-binary, lgbq, etc.), teams of staff who will build a plan tailored to each individual client after detox, and same for those that won't need detox. It will be an amazing resource for the brave people who Want to get clean & sober, but continually hit brick walls & miles of red tape!
Sadly, Becca's battles have not stopped with her health. She & Kalijah have been homeless since September 2022 (the conclusion of a tough, 2-year slumlord battle that was unfortunately lost) and recently, her vehicle & necessary transportation to school, doctor's appts, etc. was stolen just before Christmas! She finally found it at a tow yard, some counties away. Her insurance has lapsed, due to her financial struggles, so she is unable to afford the $1,000 plus to get it out of the tow yard, and any likely needed repairs.
So, we are reaching out to you, our neighbor, our comrades in arms ~ this struggling little family needs your compassion & light, your light, to part the dark skies that have shrouded their horizon a little too long!
