On January 1, 2025, I became the foster parent to my 14-year-old nephew, Nathaniel. I welcomed him into my home with the promise from the county that they would provide the necessary resources to support us. As a single mom, this commitment was daunting, but I believed I could rely on the county to fulfill their promises.
However, after 12 weeks, I have received no resources, funding, or assistance from them—just broken promises and excuses. It’s become painfully clear that the foster care system is deeply flawed. Just yesterday, I was informed that I won’t receive funding for several more months and that I won’t be compensated for the time I’ve already devoted to caring for him.
With a humble heart, I am reaching out to family and friends for help. I want to give Nathaniel the support he deserves, but I’ve had to pull him from sports, limit his activities, and carefully watch my grocery budget. This isn’t fair to him, especially after everything he has already endured.
Together, we can make a real difference in the life of a child in foster care. Your support can help me provide love, stability, and the resources he desperately need.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for considering helping us—every little bit makes a difference.
