Hello Friends,

Greetings from the Broadstone family and thank you in advance for joining us in our pursuit to repair and restore Charlotte’s heart and support the Broadstones during this time.  The Teal Heart Project is what we are calling this adventure we are embarking on…for obvious reasons and because teal is currently Charlotte’s favorite color.

We wanted to give you an update and an opportunity to be a part of the coming weeks and months in the lives of the Broadstone family.  Courtney, Peter, Charlotte and Mia are still residing in Eugene, Oregon. Charlotte is in first grade and loves gymnastics, tennis (obviously) and reading books, Mia is in pre-school and still loves being very loud, while Courtney is still coaching Women’s Tennis at the University of Oregon.

As many of you recall, Charlotte was born with a tricuspid flail valve in her heart. The time has come when her body requires the valve be repaired and therefore she is scheduled to undergo open heart surgery on November 12, 2024 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota. The entire family will travel to and stay in Rochester for approximately 2 weeks, so Charlotte can prepare for and undergo the surgery, then have a chance to recover afterwards, before being cleared to travel home.

The extended family of the Broadstone’s casts a wide net of those who have played with, cheered for, laughed with and loved them throughout the years  We are calling on the Oregon tennis community from then and now, the Iowa contingent where is all began, the UNC tennis community and North Carolina family of supporters who knew Charlotte in the early days, Courtney’s Burn Boot Camp Eugene crew and all the friends, teammates, fellow coaches and simply those who have been sprinkled into their lives.

Please consider supporting The Teal Heart Project that will help towards the practical expenses (air travel, ground transportation, housing and meals) of the 2-week stay in Minnesota as well as any residual medical expenses not covered by insurance. All funds raised will go directly to the Broadstones to help alleviate financial pressures so they can focus solely on their family and Charlotte’s recovery.

Our goal is to raise $15k and any contribution is greatly appreciated.

Teal Heart Project 🩵 Gratitude Update. It’s Thanksgiving week and so many blessings to report in the 10 weeks since we launched this support effort.

  • Your outpouring of financial support allowed us to meet the target goal and allow the Broadstones to focus on their family travel to the Mayo Clinic, the details of preparing for the surgery and the delicate days of Charlotte’s recovery that followed.

  • Charlotte was discharged on her 7th Birthday…only 4 days after her heart surgery. Your thoughts and prayers were so appreciated during these days of recovery when her body was proving strong and resilient.

  • The Broadstones flew home to Oregon last week and Charlotte’s first cardiac check-up reported that she’s doing great and continues to get stronger. We are so excited 🎉

It’s perfect that this final update comes days before Thanksgiving and can remind us all to maintain an attitude of gratitude for what matters most…the community of our family and friends.

We appreciate the contributions everyone has made toward the Teal Heart Project to support the Broadstones. The positive outcome was made possible because we all came together…thank you for choosing to show your love with a helping hand. Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season ahead!
