I’m doing this because I’ve been watching everything happening with Tropical Storm Lala in Hawaii and honestly it just doesn’t sit right with me to see people having to prepare for something like this and just keep scrolling. Hawaii is dealing with a serious storm that is bringing the possibility of dangerous winds, heavy rain, flooding, mudslides and dangerous surf, and emergency shelters are already being opened for people who may need somewhere safe to go.
I know what it feels like to watch something bad happen to people and wish there was something you could actually do. That’s really why I started this. I kept thinking about families having to worry about whether they’re going to be okay, where they’re going to stay, whether they have enough food and water, how they’re going to get around, and what happens after the storm is over.
The goal of this fundraiser is to raise money that can go toward disaster relief needs connected to Tropical Storm Lala. That can mean emergency food and water, basic supplies, transportation, temporary shelter, hygiene items, medical necessities and helping people start dealing with the damage and cleanup after the storm. I want the money to go toward things that people actually need when something like this happens.
I know $10 or $20 might not feel like it can do much. But if enough people decide to give what they can, it really can turn into something. Maybe somebody gives $5. Maybe somebody gives $25. Maybe somebody can give $100. Everybody doesn't have to give the same amount. I just want people to look at this and think, “I can do something.”
And honestly, that’s why I’m doing this. I don’t want to just sit around watching the news and feeling bad for people. I want to actually try to make a difference, even if it’s in a small way. These are real people who are having to prepare for a storm right now, and once the storm passes, they still have to deal with whatever it leaves behind.
If you can donate, thank you. Seriously. And if you can’t, I understand because everybody has their own bills and their own things going on. I just hope you’ll at least take a minute to look at what’s happening and understand why I decided to do this. I really hope we can come together and help somebody who needs it right now.
I don’t know how far this fundraiser will go. I don’t know how many people will see it. But I know I would rather try than do nothing. If even one family gets some help because people decided to come together, then it was worth starting this.
