Hi! This is Miss Freyja FriskyWhiskerBiscuits. She's a very good girl. We found this kitten (thought to be almost to just over a year old) in front of our house. She couldn't get up, and she was crying in pain and panting desperately. I don't know how long she was there, but she was suffering and she couldn't get up. We rushed her to the vet. In fragile health and desperate pain, pale, in shock, dehydrated and anemic, she remained sweet.
I assumed she had been hit by a car. After x-rays, the vet determined that she had 4 pelvic breaks, an obstructed elimination system (urinary/colon), along with a luxated hip on one side and a compressed one on the other (one leg is popped out and one is crunched in). She couldn't breathe well, and she's currently on oxygen. The vet said it is more likely to be the result of some heinous assault, as opposed to a car, since her lungs are remarkably okay.
She needs surgery and a blood transfusion to survive, but with that, her chances are very good. It is, however, very expensive. And after the surgery (which is going to involve some metal screws, among other things), she'll need some additional continual care until she gets back on her feet. I'm hoping some of you can help to cover the costs of her care while we tend her. The vet provided 2 estimates, but assumes it will land closer to the latter number, since they had to get an out of house orthopedic veterinary surgeon to help her walk again. We got to visit for about 15 minutes, but we had to go, so she would still be in an oxygen rich environment. She can't be pet below the ribs, because everything else hurts so badly that she cries and shakes even on morphine.
She's unusually kind, despite being in agony. Please help us save this sweet girl.
