My name is Jamin Ford and for as long as I can remember my mom, Carol Ford has been a ray of light to everyone and every situation she encountered. A loving wife, mother and grandmother she always knew exactly what to do or say to fix any situation.
Carol was born and raised in Portsmouth, VA where she graduated from IC Norcom High School. She went on to get her Bachelor’s degree from Norfolk State University, where she made as she would put it “one of the best” decisions of her life and pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. From there she got her master’s degree from Temple University and began teaching in the Philadelphia school system. She moved to Baltimore, MD where she spent the next 30+ plus years as a devoted teacher and guidance counselor in the Baltimore City Public School system. She was also a part of numerous organizations such as Zonta International, the Carats of Baltimore, and the Alpha Wives.
About 9 years ago we started to notice some differences in her behavior. She used to watch our youngest daughter at the time and when we would pick her up, she would be missing a sock or some other small item. Other times she would take a routine trip to the market or hairdresser, routes that she knew like the back of her hand and no one would see or hear from her for hours because she got lost somewhere along the way. We took her to the doctor and she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, a form of Dementia. That diagnosis changed our lives forever as we slowly watched her slip away and deteriorate. The culmination of this came February 20, 2026 as we watched her take her last breath.
Unfortunately after going through all the paperwork my mom didn’t have any life insurance and the cost of paying for a funeral is proving to be very difficult for our family.
I am asking for help from friends, family and the community to help us give my mom the dignity of the proper funeral and burial she so richly deserves. No contribution is too small and all are greatly appreciated.
