A little over a year ago, my nephew and nieces were brought into the foster care system due to DCS removal. Myself and my sister are now their kinship placements but are facing financial hardship in caring for all 3 kids.
I am a single person and my sister is disabled. I am working full time but with the cost of rent, utilities, car payment and my nephew with special needs it has been more than difficult to say the least.
My sister has custody of my 2 nieces. She is currently going through the steps of federal disability as she works through her potential early onset MS diagnosis as well as other serious health complications.
My sister and I have worked so hard to provide these children with the loving stable homes that they need. However, our bills and costs are quickly surpassing what income we make. Currently, I am behind on all utility, rent and car payments. My sister is unable to qualify for food stamps and we have been contributing equally for groceries and also using the community resources for us.
We are trying our best to make sure these kids all stay with family and are happy and healthy but it seems our luck is not the greatest right now. Anything anyone can contribute will go a long way and be more appreciated than you know.
