Hello! My name is Levi. On April 5th, I will become a Bar Mitzvah. In Hebrew, “mitzvah” means good deed. So as part of the process I have come up with a Mitzvah project combining my love of swim and a cause important to me.
At swim meets, it is common to receive a rubber duck if you win your heat. Therefore, I came up with an idea to do a rubber duck race to raise money.
On February 22nd, I will be holding my race race in my swim team’s pool. I am asking for people to sponsor ducks for $10 each. Each duck will then be numbered in the order of which I receive the donations (ie: if the first person pledges $50, ducks 1-5 will be entered and so forth).
Upon completion of the race, I commit to swimming however many laps that the winning duck is numbered!
All money I raise will be donated to Edmarc. Edmarc is an organization that is very important to my family. In 2019, my cousin, Carson, was diagnosed with Tay Sachs, a genetic and terminal disorder. Throughout her short life, Edmarc was there to provide resources and support to my family. As a tribute to her and thanks to all Edmarc provided, my family has continued to support their work of assisting any child and their family who is facing a life-threatening illness.
It is my honor to raise money in my cousin’s memory and look forward to seeing lots of ducks in the pool (although I’m secretly rooting for duck number 1 to win!)
