Help Bring Life-Saving Neurosurgical Care to Communities in Need
Every patient deserves access to safe, life-saving neurosurgical care, regardless of where they live.
We are the Georgetown University chapter of Mission:BRAIN, a global nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to neurosurgical care in underserved communities around the world. Mission:BRAIN's work is guided by three principles: Treat. Educate. Empower.
Many of the hospitals served by neurosurgical mission teams have physicians who are ready to care for their patients but do not have access to the resources needed to safely perform complex brain and spine surgery. Basic surgical instruments, medications, sterile supplies, diagnostic equipment, and other essential resources may be limited or unavailable. For patients with serious neurosurgical conditions, access to these resources can determine whether they are able to receive the treatment they need.
Our Georgetown Mission:BRAIN chapter is raising funds to directly support neurosurgical mission efforts in underserved regions around the world. Donations will help purchase surgical instruments, medical supplies, medications, and other equipment needed to provide safe neurosurgical care. Funds will also help cover travel expenses for mission teams. By helping offset these costs, we hope to make it possible for more physicians at Georgetown, trainees, equipment, and supplies to reach hospitals where they are needed most.
The goal of these missions extends beyond the individual surgeries performed during each trip. Mission:BRAIN works alongside local physicians and healthcare teams to share knowledge, provide resources, and strengthen the ability of local hospitals to care for neurosurgical patients in the future. Supporting local surgeons and healthcare systems is an important part of making the impact of each mission last.
Neurosurgery can save a life, restore a patient's independence, and allow someone to return home to their family. In many parts of the world, however, the people and resources needed to provide that care simply are not available.
