Mike’s Fight for Life Against ALS
“So you’re saying there’s a chance.” YES! And it’s much better odds than one in a million, but we need your help!!
Mike’s Story:
After years of trials and tribulations in our lives, it was like a miracle when Mike and I found each other. Just 6 years ago we became Mr. & Mrs. Michael & Abigail Hartigan. We started a new chapter, a life full of love, and couldn’t wait to grow old together— unaware that our biggest battle in life was yet to come.
This past March, Mike was diagnosed with ALS, (AKA Lou Gehrig’s Disease). It is a neuromuscular disease that continuously destroys motor neurons in the brain that are required for muscle function, causing atrophy, paralysis and eventually death in 3-5 years. They have still not found a cause or a cure, the doctor told us, reinforcing the death sentence he just delivered.
As we tried to come to terms with this news, I realized that we were just accepting this verdict. Why? There had to be alternative ideas or options somewhere, so along with our whole family, we started digging. That’s when it felt like a guardian angel stepped in. Mike’s mom called. Her friend was praying for us at a religious retreat when her phone went off, delivering news of hope to pass on to us. A friend of this friend knew a woman named Moira Papp, who years prior, had been in the life threatening stage of ALS. Yes—I used the past tense, and No— she has not passed away. Just the opposite. Moira discovered Dr. Abreu, founder of the BTT Medical Institute, who was doing groundbreaking work on brain thermodynamic solutions for neurodegenerative diseases. After receiving treatments, Moira became the first case ever to have a reversal of ALS symptoms! With FDA approval and the opening of the new BTT Institute in Florida, Mike and so many others now have hope. We have been in contact with Moira and with the BTT Institute, and Mike has an opportunity to receive treatments, but that’s where we need your help. Each treatment (there are multiple) costs a minimum of $45,000!! As of now, Insurance companies are still not covering it, so Mikes life is currently in the hands of God, and dependent on the generosity of others.
