Since I left my abusive partner in recent weeks, his terror has been escalating. My ex has entered my apartment on numerous occasions when I’m not home, sat outside in the parking lot for hours to observe me comings and goings, as well as followed me to my work.
I sought help from local authorities regarding protection but unfortunately was told that there was nothing that could legally be done to stop my ex from entering my apartment when I’m gone because I gave him a spare key a year prior. They considered it granting access. His stalking is considered “non-threatening” because he has not approached me. Yet. The apartment complex is refusing to change the locks without a restraining order, which local police advised would likely not be granted under the current conditions. My complex also warned me not to change the locks myself.
Since i discover my ex has a history of stalking and physically abusing prior partners with one still in hiding years later. I also found evidence of inappropriate behavior with children. I reported that behavior and now fears for my life and my son.
It is unsafe for me in my current state where my ex practices law and is well connected. I wants to flee the state as soon as possible with my son so that I will stay closer to family and hidden well away from my previous partner.
While the costs for moving is higher than the goal, it will be the head start I needs to get the ball rolling. Anything helps. Even a share.
