My friend Bobbie is an essential care worker who has worked through the entire pandemic caring for the the elderly as private home healthcare personnel. She was also working for Instacart as an independent contractor, delivering groceries to folks in need. While on that job, she fell down a flight of stairs and injured her back. Despite seriously injuring herself, she only missed 2 days of work 90 days after the accident before the injuries sustained necessitated that she undergo surgery. Because she only missed two days of work after her accident, she is not receiving any financial assistance during her recovery. She has no medical insurance and is having difficulty covering the cost of her prescriptions, buying food, paying bills (like her car payment), and caring for her doggo, 'Rojo' . . . Her convalescence is supposed to be 12 weeks and so far she's about 5 weeks into it but her situation is getting dire. I hate our healthcare system and how it's screwing over essential workers like my friend. If you are able to help in any way, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading this.
