Dear Friends, Family, and Supporters,

My name is David Czerny, and I’m reaching out in a time of deep need and vulnerability on behalf of my incredible wife, Emily. She has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, and our lives have been turned upside down.

Emily is the heart of our family. She’s a strong, compassionate woman of faith — a loving mother, a tireless supporter, and my partner in every sense. Seeing her face this battle has been heartbreaking, but she is fighting with courage and grace.

Our family is now facing not only the emotional and physical toll of cancer, but also an overwhelming financial crisis.

I live with a disabling condition that prevents me from working. We’ve always done our best to make ends meet, but now with Emily’s diagnosis, our challenges have multiplied. Medical bills, appointments, medications, and basic living expenses are growing rapidly. We simply cannot do this alone.  Now, as she begins chemotherapy followed by a double mastectomy, multiple surgeries, and radiation treatment,  she will be unable to work — leaving us without any income.

That’s why we are asking for help — from friends, loved ones, and kind strangers who may be moved by our story.

Your donation will help us:

  • Afford essential medical treatments and prescriptions

  • Pay monthly bills and keep a stable home for our family

  • Give Emily the support she needs without financial stress

Every dollar counts. Every prayer matters. Even sharing this campaign helps more than you know. We believe in the strength of community, and we are holding onto faith — but we need help to get through this fight.

Thank you for reading, for caring, and for standing with us.

With gratitude,
David Czerny and Family

Emily completed her chemotherapy on December 15th. It was initially delayed due to low platelet levels, as she was not recovering as expected from her recent treatments. Her platelet count dropped to its lowest level so far, so carboplatin was removed from her regimen to help prevent further delays with her upcoming surgeries.

Her next appointment is on January 5th for her HER2 infusion, during which her labs will be checked. We are praying for improved recovery and that her surgery can proceed as planned on January 7th. On the morning of surgery, she will be scanned to determine whether more than 3-4 lymph nodes will need to be removed.

After the double mastectomy, the cancer sites will be biopsied to determine whether radiation will be necessary. If the chemotherapy has done its job, radiation may be avoided, and reconstruction surgery can begin.

Your prayers are greatly needed and deeply appreciated.

Emily finally had her 4th chemotherapy treatment after it was delayed a week due to low platelets and concerns about her heart function. Her cardiologist started her on medication to help prevent heart failure, and thankfully, it’s helped improve some of her symptoms.

It’s taken us a little while to share an update because these past few weeks have been filled with challenges and constant appointments. With my own health issues, it’s been hard keeping up with the kids, homeschooling, and everything around the house. Please continue to keep Emily and myself in your prayers — your love, support, and prayers mean more to us than words can ever express.

Emily had her second round of chemotherapy on Tuesday, September 9th. Some of her medications had to be adjusted because of concerns with her kidney function. Unlike the first cycle, the side effects this time around were immediate and very strong. She has been in terrible pain and is facing some of the toughest days yet. Around day 11 of her first round, her hair began to fall out, and she made the brave decision to remove it—through it all, she still looks just as beautiful as ever.

These past three weeks have been incredibly difficult, and heading into the next cycle is understandably scary. Still, Emily remains in good spirits and could truly use all the love, prayers, and support right now.

Update on Emily

Today, Emily began her first round of chemotherapy. We arrived at 8:30 a.m. and stayed until 4:30 p.m. Because it was her first treatment, each medication was administered individually to make sure there were no reactions. This made the day longer, but everything went smoothly, and future sessions should be a little shorter.

One concern that arose was her heart function. Her most recent echocardiogram showed a decrease in both heart function and heart rate since the last scan, so her doctors will be closely monitoring her throughout treatment.

The hardest part for Emily today was enduring the freezing cold packs she had to wear on her hands and feet for 45 minutes at a time. These packs help lower the risk of neuropathy—a painful, lasting nerve condition that affects the hands and feet. As someone who personally lives with neuropathy, I know how life-changing and agonizing it can be. I tried the packs myself, and the shock of the cold literally took my breath away. Yet Emily must go through this with every treatment, on top of everything else that chemotherapy brings. Her strength is inspiring, but the road ahead is still long and difficult.

We are now halfway to our fundraising goal, and the outpouring of support so far has been a true blessing. To everyone who has donated or shared—thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We still need help to reach our goal so Emily can focus on healing without the added stress of financial strain. Every gift, no matter the size, and every share brings us closer.

Thank you for standing with Emily through this fight.

Emily had her port for chemotherapy placed today. She will undergo six rounds of chemotherapy, along with four different HER2-targeted medications, all administered through this port. Treatments will occur every three weeks, with each session lasting about 5–7 hours, for a total of 18 weeks.

Adjustments may be made based on her lab results and how she responds to treatment. If all goes well, surgery will take place after the 18 weeks. However, she will continue receiving HER2 medications through the port for at least a year.

This coming week, she still has four more appointments, and chemotherapy is scheduled to begin on August 19th.

We will follow up after chemotherapy begins.
