In January 2015, I (Riley) was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer when I was 24 years old and 17 weeks pregnant. I had a surgery and started chemo while I was pregnant which prevented us from preserving any eggs once I delivered my daughter. A month after delivery I started back on chemo as we didn't have time to wait for me to do the egg retrieval process and the chemo I started at that point, killed my ovaries. In February 2016 after I completed my chemo treatments, I had a procedure called the "HIPEC" along with removing my ovaries, tubes, uterus, omentum (Fatty layer that protects your organs in your abdomen), my appendix and gallbladder. I had my colostomy bag at the time, reversed and a temporary ileostomy bag placed (reversed in May 2016). After all that was done, they put hot chemo in my abdomen and swished it around for an hour and a half, took it out then sewed me back up. I have thankfully been in remission since then and have a happy, healthy 6 year old daughter that has been asking when she will get a sibling (a sister to be exact). Unfortunately giving her that sibling isn't as simple as it was for me to get her (haha) and we have to use an egg donor, surrogate, and IVF to frankenstein this baby together. I am very excited to go down this path as it is another chapter in my story of adventures from diagnosis to now. We are hoping to have our surrogate pregnant by May or June as the ball seems to be rolling quite smoothly.
We have received an amazing amount of support and encouragement to include telling me to make something like this so poeple can donate.
We love y'all and I'm forever thankful for the people we have in our lives.
