From a Tent in Gaza to the University of Leicester — Help Me Start Again
Can $10 really change someone’s life.
For me… it truly can.
My name is Yasser. I’m 21 years old, a student from Gaza who has held onto one dream through everything:
to study Computer Science and rebuild a future that war tried to erase.
Three years ago, my life was simple.
I studied, planned my goals, and believed that hard work would shape my tomorrow.
Then the war came… and everything changed.
I didn’t just lose my home.
I lost safety, stability, and every piece of normal life I once knew.
Today, I live in a tent — a place no student should ever have to call “home.”
A tent that doesn’t stop the cold.
A tent that shakes with every wind.
A tent with no stable electricity, no reliable internet, and no quiet corner to study.
But even in these conditions… I refused to give up.
I studied under the dim light of a phone.
I memorized lessons through noise, fear, and uncertainty.
Every night was a battle — but determination kept me going.
And somehow… I made it.
I was accepted into several UK universities, including the one that means the most to me:
The University of Leicester.
For me, this isn’t just an academic opportunity.
It is a chance to start again.
A chance to rebuild my life from the ground up.
A chance to finally step out of survival mode.
But one obstacle stands in the way…

I’m not asking for luxury.
