The devastation that hit Eastern Turkey and Northern Syria on February 6th is wide spread and vast. The local government is doing their best to help those in need but it’s more than they can handle. My brother-in-law has decided to help by loading and driving a truck packed with supplies from his city of Diyarbakir to Adiyaman, the closest hard hit city. The 7.8 earthquake, that brought down 12,170 buildings throughout Turkey, has brought this city to a standstill. The electricity has been cut and many are living out of their cars, are on the streets, or in tents. Many buildings are not safe to stay in as aftershocks are still happening and they have sustained damage. People are outside in freezing weather (40s during the day reaching low 20s at night) with nothing left. We are collecting funds to send over to my brother-in-law so that he can buy supplies and hand them out personally to those in need. Whatever funds we collect will go directly to those who need it. Blankets ($17) and food staples (lentils, rice, etc) is what we are focusing on although clothes for children and adults and other hygiene products are needed as well. Please donate whatever you feel comfortable with and know my brother-in-law will get supplies to those who need it. He has delivered 3 truck loads already and is eager to do more.
