Hi, my name is Amy, and I am humbly asking for help during the most challenging time of my life. I know we’re all facing struggles, and I truly appreciate you even taking the time to read my story.
Over the past few years, my health has declined due to Lupus and PTSD, leaving me unable to work the way I once could. In June of 2024, I lost my job, and despite applying to over 300 jobs on Indeed and countless others elsewhere, I’ve been unable to secure employment. I also qualify and have applied for SSI disability, but the approval process can take up to two years.
Since October 2023, I’ve been living in my minivan with my beloved rescue animals—three cats and a senior dog. I became homeless after a platonic housemate attempted to assault me multiple times, forcing me to leave for my safety. Unfortunately, local shelters are overcrowded, and I couldn’t bear the thought of my fur babies being separated or euthanized. They are my family and my lifeline, they’ve adjusted remarkably well to this situation.
Adding to the heartbreak, I recently lost everything I owned in storage because I couldn’t keep up with the fees. All of my clothes, personal items, and sentimental belongings are gone. I’m left with almost nothing and urgently need work appropriate clothing and gas to get to and from interviews, and the ability to rebuild my life.
I was doing Uber Eats to survive, but I can no longer continue because my car registration has expired, and I can’t afford insurance. Without these, I’m unable to drive legally or safely, cutting off my only source of income. My car is now also at risk of repossession, and without it, I’ll lose not only my shelter but my ability to work and attend job interviews.
Here’s what I need help with:
•$600 to renew my car registration
•$600 to cover three months of insurance.
•$1,500 to catch up on car payments.
•$360 for new tires.
•$180 for an oil change and fluid’s
•Clothes, shoes, and other essentials to prepare for job interviews.
• Gas to get to and from interviews and potential work opportunities.
Prepaid cards for gas, Laundromat as well as Restaurant or Cafe’s where I can use internet and charge my devices would also be really helpful and appreciated.
I have 25+ years of customer service experience, I’ve owned and managed salons and spa businesses in the past. I’m applying to all kinds of jobs every day and am determined to get back on my feet.
I am on Medi-Cal and EBT food stamps and receive the maximum benefit of $292 per month which breaks down to around $9.75 a day…unfortunately that doesn’t go far when trying to eat somewhat healthy without access to refrigeration or a kitchen nor does it cover essentials like laundry soap, laundromat usage or hygiene essentials.
Anything helps, whether it’s a donation, sharing this campaign, or advice. If you know of resources, job leads, or even a lawyer who can help me with potential legal cases related to my previous living situation, I’d be incredibly grateful.
This is my last resort, and asking for help is not easy for me. But I’m terrified of losing the little I have left. Thank you for your kindness, and please be gentle with me—I’m doing my best to stay hopeful.
