The Story
In 1992, at just four years old, my parents brought me from Jamaica to the United States. For most of my life, the U.S. was the only home I knew. I grew up there, went to school there, and built my entire identity within its borders. However, due to paperwork that was never finalized during my childhood, my life took a drastic turn in 2012 when I was sent back to Jamaica at the age of 24.
Transitioning to an environment I hadn't seen since I was a toddler has been an uphill battle. For the last 14 years, I have worked hard to adapt, bouncing between various roles and most recently working within the tourism industry. Unfortunately, due to recent layoffs, I find myself at a crossroads.
At 38, my greatest wish is to return to the place I consider home and reunite with the life I was forced to leave behind.
The Goal
I am launching this fund to hire a specialized immigration lawyer to formally plead my case. The legal process is complex and costly, but it is my only viable path to resolving my status and returning to the U.S.
