Hello, my name is Juanita Gray. I’m a 55-year-old woman currently living in Mesquite, Texas, preparing to relocate to Detroit, Michigan in mid-June to rebuild my life after a series of heartbreaking and life-altering events.
In 2022, I lost my beloved mother. In 2023, I suddenly lost my husband of over 20 years to a heart attack. I was forced to leave the home we built together.
Then, in early 2025, I lost my job—my last remaining source of security. Despite having insurance coverage through my employer, my claims were denied multiple times by MetLife, causing deep financial strain. After months of stress and fighting, they eventually made partial payments, but the damage was already done.
As if that weren’t enough, I faced another blow. My husband’s work equipment, worth over $20,000, was stored in a garage I rented. Without my consent, the apartment staff cleared out the unit. Some items were trashed, others possibly taken. The apartment management offered me only $850—an insult compared to the value lost. I want to pursue small claims court, but I simply can’t afford the filing fees right now.
Since losing my job, I’ve been struggling just to survive. I’ve had no income to cover rent, car payments, insurance, or even food. I also lost my health coverage at a critical time in my life, as an aging woman facing major physical and emotional stress.
Despite all of this, I still believe in new beginnings.
I am asking for help from anyone who can assist me in relocating to Detroit, where I hope to start fresh. I’ll be driving from Mesquite to Detroit in mid-June, and I need help covering:
•Gas and lodging for the trip
•Rental deposits and housing costs
•Basic living expenses (food, hygiene, etc.)
•Car insurance to avoid repossession
•Small claims court filing fees to recover my stolen property
I’ve never asked strangers for help before, but I’m leaning into faith and the kindness of others during this difficult season. If you’re able to donate or share my story, I would be deeply grateful.
Thank you for reading this. Thank you for caring. And thank you for helping me rebuild.
With hope and gratitude,
Juanita Gray
