Hi, America!
My name is Karson Pennington, Miss Georgia 2021, and I'm honored to be a candidate for the job of Miss America 2022. I've been involved with the Miss America Organization since I was 10 years old, when I attended Miss Georgia as a member of the Princess Program and watched Miss Georgia crowned live for the first time in my life. I knew that I wanted to one day be just like the accomplished young women I saw onstage and that I'd do everything in my power to become Miss Georgia. I competed in the Miss Georgia's Outstanding Teen Competition many times, never giving up on my dreams but also never being lucky enough to be crowned. No number of losses detered me from chasing my dreams, and on my second trip to Miss Georgia as Miss University of Georgia 2020, I was honored to earn the job of Miss Georgia 2021. Though I never gave up on my dreams, I certainly never thought I'd be competing at the 100th Miss America Competition! I am grateful for every opportunity and incredibly proud to represent my state this December.
Scholarships are the reason that I'm a second-year doctoral student in the Political Science Department at the University of Georgia. I've earned $23,450 through competing in the Miss America Organization thus far, which helped me complete two Bachelors degrees and a Masters degree in only 4 years. I am a Magna Cum Laude with High Honors gradute of the University of Georgia, having graduated in May of 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Bachelor of Arts in History, and Master of Arts in Political Science & International Affairs. Earning more scholarships would allow me to finish my Ph.D., publish my judicial research, and eventually become a collegiate professor where I'll affect change in education through seeking political office. My Social Impact Initiative, ROAR: Reach Out and Read, allows me to utilize my education to promote literacy awareness and provide educational resources to communities in need. I truly owe all that I am today to the Miss America Organization and the scholarships I've received through competing!
