WHY PROTEST? THIS IS A PEACEFUL MARCH / PROTEST!!
In light of recent events - the killing of black men by police officers - the community of Bloomington, Indiana has decided to take a stand for our brothers and sisters & help the next generation: every dollar counts!
George Floyd, a 46-year-old African-American man, died on May 25, 2020 after being handcuffed and pinned to the ground by a police officer's knee. On May 6, 2020, Sean Reed, was live-streaming himself on Facebook when he was shot. Unknown to the police, Reed was recording as he was gunned down and the officers had no clue that after shooting him, they could be heard sharing a laugh over his dead body. On February 23, 2020 Ahmaud Arbery, a black man, was jogging in his neighborhood in Georgia on February 23 when he was shot to death after being chased by Gregory and Travis McMichael, a father and son former police officers...
OBJECTIVES:
Our mission is to create a space for those affected by these crimes against humanity. During times like this it can feel as if there is nothing we can do to express our anger, outrage, and emotions for the unjust treatment of Black bodies in America. Police enforcement, government officials, and leaders of this country constantly misuse their power and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. When will our voices be heard? When will change occur? How many more people have to die for law and order to exist for everyone, not only for white people? Our goal is to come together while practicing social distancing due to COVID-19.
SOCIAL DISTANCING:
We are currently in Stage II of quarantine. With that being said, we are asking all volunteers to wear masks and advertise that wearing a mask is a must! Thank you to the help of Nicole from Mutual Aid Masks for helping with our goal of over 50 face masks to supply during this march! She will be donating her time, labor, and support on helping create masks for all who do not have any. The masks are 100% cotton. She is accepting donations of fabric, pipe cleaners, blue shop towels, and zipper sandwich baggies. If you'd like to contribute, please email her (MutualAidMasks@gmail.com). In addition to face masks, we will be holding the beginning of our March at Dunn Meadow on 7th street due to the large space for social distancing.
FIRST AID ON SITE:
Certified First Aid and CPR volunteers will be available both patrolling through the crowds and manning a First Aid Station. We are gladly accepting any additional first aid supplies and donations. - 8 rolls of gauze
- 2 antibiotic ointments
- 3 bottles of eye drops
- 2 bottles of hydrogen peroxide
- 4 rolls of paper towels
- 3 packages of baby wipes
- 3 rolls of clean fabric towels

WHO YOU HELP: Banneker Community Center
The Banneker Community Center houses a variety of community programs and activities for kids and teens. At this and a previous location, Banneker School was a segregated school for Bloomington's African American residents from the early 1900s to 1955.
WHY BANNEKER?
It is an organization that has opened its arms as a space for black youth in Bloomington. By fundraising for this organization, we hope to promote empowerment for our future leaders. Black youth are young witnesses to the crimes against black people. This protest is one that not only is to inform but to empower. One way we believe we can empower is having this protest have immediate results that can directly impact the black community of Bloomington.
