A couple weeks ago, we lost our main source of income unexpectedly. Since then, we have been relentlessly putting in applications, but we haven't been able to pay our phone bill for the past 4 or 5 months, so have been having to rely on very spotty wifi in order to make and receive calls from potential employers. We still owe money from Septemeber's rent, plus now we owe October.
Unemployment has been filed for, but the state of louisiana doesn't give someone supporting a family of 5 enough in unemployment to even pay the rent. Our electric bill is extremely high, even though I have been near OCD trying to keep lights off and the AC up, seems like inflation has driven those prices up sky high.
****UPDATE: WE NOW HAVE DISCONNECTION NOTICES FOR BOTH ELECTRICITY AND UTILITIES****
I have called any and every organization that I can find a number for, but none of them assist people in our parish, they also only assist people 65+ and/or disabled people. Food banks here are held once or twice a month, and the last time we tried to utilize one, we were given rice, beans and frozen meat that was actually moldy and had freezer burn, so we are reluctant to try again, if we can even find one now. Getting assistance, including calling 211, is not nearly as easy as people who have never needed help think it is.
My husband is a veteran, who does have disabilities and we are actively work to get disabled veteran benefits, but that isn't going to help our immediate needs.
I do work from home as I am disabled(I don't qualify for disability, for whatever reason), but barely make more than $100-$200 a week, and that's if and when there is even work.
Any help that you could offer our little family of 5 , including 3 young boys that haven't been able to eat as well as they need to be, would be vastly appreciated.
