Hello everyone,
I’m not really sure where to start and I probably won’t be sure where to end.
My son and I have had some horrible luck the past few years and things aren’t getting any better, in fact they are the worst they’ve ever been. We lost everything we owned after I’d finally gotten back to work after being sick a few years ago and our landlord illegally evicted us because I worked too much and we tried to start all over with nothing and that’s when his health problems started again.
We don’t have any family or any support system at all. His father‘s family doesn’t help no matter what they might try to make people think. They won’t even call him.
My son just had surgery five days ago to remove two tumors, one in the sinuses, one in his jaw and part of his jaw bone in addition to some other tissue and bone manipulation to try to help him heal and have functioning sinuses and jaw movement.
We are currently stranded in Rockland County. We were in the shelter before this because we completely ran out of resources and didn’t have any help or anywhere to go so now we have temporary housing but we can’t get to anything. I tried to get a car while I was in the shelter when I was feeling better and able to work part time and they made me give it back and said they would close my case if I didn’t. I was hoping to be able to get to a better job but at least there was a somewhat functioning bus system that accessed the shelter.
Now there is no bus by where we live. I have to walk 3/4 of a mile to get to anywhere the bus will stop and then 3/4 of a mile back and that’s carrying everything and then the cold weather is starting and the ice and snow. It’s not safe for him or I, there are no sidewalks so we will be slipping in the road and I can’t make my son do that especially with his medical situation. I don’t have any transportation to take him to anything that he needs to or wants to go to. He can’t even participate in the school play because I won’t be able to pick him up.
I need to have a car again because I need to be able to get him to doctors appointments. I need to be able to get to somewhere to do laundry. I need to be able to get to food. I need to be able to get to a job again when I’m not having medical treatments.
This is impossible. People will ask, well there must be some other option? There must be some other solution. But, I’ve gone through everything, tried everything and thought of everything and there isn’t any.
It’s very hard for people to understand when you don’t have any family, when you don’t have a support system at all, when you don’t have a safety net, when you literally have no one just how hard it can be.
I have been completely focused on my son for years and I don’t have anyone that I can rely on. I don’t have any friends. There have been a couple of kind ladies lately that have brought us things for our place and one that has given me rides when she can. No one else checks on us and no one seems to care how hard your situation can be because again, they can’t picture themselves there, so they think there’s something you should be able to do.
But, if there’s a more stubborn and persistent and independent person in the world, I would like to meet them because I’ve been on my own since I was a teenager and I have only ever asked for help one other time when my son was sick, but a I was able to eventually figure it out.
You have to have money to make money and if you don’t have any resources, you can’t make anything happen. I am looking for work, but I have to be able to get to it. I need to have surgery scheduled to remove cancer that has spread to my soft tissue again but can’t book it without a way to get there and back and without help for him.
I can’t have my son‘s medical insurance canceled right now and the county is always eager to close our case even if I don’t receive any temporary assistance, my son’s father doesn’t pay his child support so it won’t matter and it’s nowhere near enough to live off of even if he did, it wouldn’t even pay the gas bill right for the month.
I just need a little break so things can get better for us so that again I can go to regular doctor’s appointments and we can both get better and I can start to work again. I just need some help. I’m not asking for much even though it might seem like I am.
I just want and need to catch up on bills and have transportation and be able to get him basic things that he needs.
And if I need to keep a list of every single person that donates and I make a promise to pay everybody back within a couple of years then I’ll do that. I’ll also pay it forward every chance that I get because I don’t ever wanna see anybody else feel the way that I feel right now.
I’m only asking because there’s no other solution right now, there’s no answer to this other than help. I hate to ask but I have to do this for my son and try to give him a chance at a normal life with no major catastrophes for the next four years so he can finish school. I try to keep things as normal as I can for him but being sick and having a chronic genetic condition and then whenever anything goes wrong, not having any back up makes it tricky. I just want him to heal but I want us both to heal mentally, emotionally and physically.
I’ll be happy to answer any questions anybody has but if you can help, I would really appreciate it because we can’t keep struggling day-to-day to this level.
I can’t take it mentally and emotionally anymore and I don’t like to see the toll it takes on him so even if you think that you could figure this out if you were in my shoes with nothing and no one, please understand that he doesn’t deserve to be punished and I just want him to have the best chance he can get in life.
If you can’t help but have good intentions, please say a prayer for my son or send him healing energy. I wish you all nothing but happiness and hope life never shows you how low it can get. These valleys are hell but I think the mountain top will be glorious when we get there. Just have to keep hoping. We can’t give up.
