After 3 years my kids were returned to me with the support of the Crow Nation. I have been with them in Arizona for several months and began the process of bring them to Crow country where I live now in Billings and part time in Garryowen with my kaala.
This Sunday, July 2nd, I put the kids on the plane with their oldest sister. I packed up the last of their things from Hopi and started the drive up to Montana. I got the oil changed, new tires, everything. About 20 miles north of Espanola New Mexico the truck started smoking from the exhaust and engine. I pull over, the truck shuts down, and bleeds oil everywhere. I call a town truck and it gets towed 50 miles south to Santa Fe. My family friend picks me up and yesterday (July 6) the Garage delivers the news that the timing chain broke and damaged the engine.
My two little guys are in Billings with their aunties and sister waiting for me. I was on my way with their things to move us into an apartment and have them spend the summer at Medicine Tail Coulee with our kaala Margo. I start work for the Crow tribe in August and begin the contract with LBHC college and 7 directions architects to build the culture center in September. I’m between contracts and all of our savings went to tires, tow trucks, unexpected expenses, and traveling. As a single mom and grandma to 5 I’m humble enough to say that I am in urgent need of help to get myself and all of my children's belongings to Crow Country and for us to be expeditiously and safely reunited within our Nations boundaries.
The amount I’m aiming for $1500, this will allow me to rent a small box moving truck for two days, and for gas across 940 miles to Billings, MT.
I’m leaving my vehicle to the garage on consignment (if someone wants to buy a truck that needs an engine $5000-$6000 repair let me know). I was told I wouldn’t get more than $1500 for it (the garage owner is suss I’m still figuring this out).
