Ashley is 31 years old. She has a condition called Rett Syndrome. She also got one of the most severe forms. She has seizures, fragile bones, and has only grown to about the size of an average 8 year old child. She is completely dependent on others for her care. Ashley has always had seizures, many quite severe. Suddenly her seizures increased in number and severity. When her seizures got out of control and her neurologist and I could not figure out why, he suggested we get video. Her stepfather and I installed cameras. What I ended up capturing on camera was him raping her. When it came time to prosecute her stepfather, we found out there is no mandatory prison sentence, even with such profound disabilities. We have decided to change that. Ashley's Law will expand the law that gives heavier sentencing for hurting a child or someone who is elderly, to include those with disabilities. We are looking to change the law by informing the public of the deficiencies in the law and the need for change. To inform the public we are looking at rallies, signs, shirts, bumper stickers, etc.and miscellaneous. So many have stepped up to help. We are hoping to cover materials. To change the law we will need to make sure Ashley and I can travel. Please help us change these laws and get Ashley to hearings, rallies, hospital stays. There have been so many things I haven't thought of or foreseen the need for. I don't know where this journey will take us, but we are grateful for every kindness we have been shown.

Fundraiser Updates (1)

The affect the rape took on Ashley was irreversible. She never recovered. He stole her innocence. He stole her joy. He stole her light. Eventually he stole her life. After this fundraiser began Ashley passed. To honor her memory the law MUST change. To change the law, to help pay for services, and a headstone, so much more work must be done. Thanking everyone who has helped became impossible when trying to deal with her loss. Please know how much every donation means.
