Help Me Stay in My Home While I Recover and Rebuild.
My name is Sonni, and I am asking for help during the most difficult period of my life.
For nearly 10 years, I have lived in the same apartment and have always worked hard to pay my bills and remain financially independent. Unfortunately, a series of serious medical issues changed everything.
In 2024, I underwent a second aortic valve replacement and spent approximately five months hospitalized. During that time, I also experienced acute kidney failure and required dialysis. Although I fought my way back and returned to work, my health challenges continued.
Earlier last year, I lost my job while still dealing with significant medical issues. My State Disability benefits have now been exhausted, and I am currently waiting for my SSDI claim to be processed. My attorney has advised that this process may take many months.
Since losing my income, I have applied for every resource available to me, including CalFresh and rental assistance. Unfortunately, my rental assistance application was affected by administrative issues and was not approved before the program closed.
I am actively looking for work and doing everything I can to stabilize my situation. I am also trying to maintain my health insurance so I can continue receiving treatment from my doctors and undergo upcoming medical procedures.
Today, my biggest challenge is keeping a roof over my head. I am behind on rent and have been informed that legal action may begin if I am unable to catch up. After nearly a decade in my home, I am doing everything possible to avoid losing it while I work through this temporary crisis.
I am seeking assistance to help cover my May and June rent and prevent the loss of my housing while I continue pursuing disability benefits, employment opportunities, and medical treatment.
Any donation, regardless of amount, will go directly toward housing expenses and help me remain safe and stable during this difficult period.
If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with others would mean the world to me.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for any support you can provide.
With gratitude,
Sonni
One thing I'd add is a simple breakdown:

June Rent: $4,455
Water/Trash: $115/month
Goal: $9,500–$10,000
