For anyone who knows Austin and me, you probably know just how much our dogs mean to us. Bella isn’t “just a dog” to us—she’s our baby, our family, and has been by our side for so many years. ❤️
Over the last couple of weeks, we noticed that Bella wasn’t eating or acting like herself and started having some stomach issues. At first, she was still drinking water, had her normal energy, and was acting like our usual Bella, so we hoped we were dealing with an upset stomach that would pass. Unfortunately, her symptoms continued and she began vomiting and drinking excessive amounts of water, so we knew something wasn’t right.
We took Bella to her longtime veterinarian, where we learned that she had lost about 6 pounds and was running a fever of 103°F. They performed X-rays, bloodwork, urine testing, and started her on several medications. Thankfully, her X-rays looked really good and showed no tumors, masses, or other obvious concerns, which was a huge relief.
Unfortunately, we received a call with her bloodwork results and learned that Bella’s liver is not functioning at all the way it should be. We are absolutely heartbroken and terrified, and we’re still trying to understand exactly what this means for our girl.
Our next step is an ultrasound to get a closer look at Bella’s liver and hopefully determine what is causing this and what treatment she will need. Depending on what they find, she may also need IV fluids, additional testing, medications, and continued treatment.
Veterinary expenses add up incredibly quickly, and while Austin and I are doing everything we reasonably can for Bella, we’re reaching out for a little help as we navigate what comes next. Every donation will go directly toward Bella’s veterinary care, testing, medications, and treatment.
We completely understand that not everyone is in a position to donate, and there is absolutely no pressure to do so. Even sharing Bella’s fundraiser or simply keeping our girl in your thoughts means more to us than we can explain.
Bella has given us years of unconditional love, companionship, ridiculousness, cuddles, and happiness. We just want the opportunity to give our goodest girl every reasonable chance we can. ❤️🐾
