My name is Sheeba. Im an 8 year old Quarter Horse. Dr. Kate told me my name means promise. She told me this when she checked on me on rt. 10 and US 41 Sunday morning as she rushed me to the hospital that she promises that I will get the care I need and not to worry about how much it will cost. She will find a way. I was severely burned early Sunday morning in a barn fire. My human parents made it out. Unfortunately, others in my family did not. I lost my family and friends which included Callie, Alice, J Lo, and Luna. They will always be in my memories. I’m trying really hard to get better and I’m fighting with everything I have. The nice doctors, veterinary nurses, and veterinary students at Purdue are doing their best to make sure my pain is managed. I have an IV in and they are running a drug into me constantly that keeps the pain managed. It’s good that I have some sensitivity because that means I still have feeling and my nerves are still working for now and long as more complications of the burns don’t manifest. They are cleaning my burns and applying a soothing cream.  My head is still swollen but it’s getting better so I can peek a little bit out of my right eye. My chest where my pectoral muscles are is really swollen. They called it edema and said some of the skin might fall off later.
My kidney values are a little high due to all the skin and muscle injuries I endured in the fire. They are running fluids through the IV and said my urine output is still good. They are also giving me plasma to help normalize my blood protein levels. I’m know I’m not much to look at right now but I have a beautiful soul and my soul wants to live. I still have fight in me. I should look much better if I make it through all this. They said this first week is the most critical for me. I’m getting nebulized to help my lungs clear all the smoke debris. I’m still getting black soot up every time I cough.
I just want thank everyone for helping my dad and mom (Brian and Janette)I also want to thank everyone for helping towards my care with donations towards my bill. My vet bill is going to be a lot and any help I can get will be much appreciated.
I know Dr. Kate is keeping everyone updated as often as she can and makes updates when she receives them.
Please keep praying for myself, my dad, and my mom.
My mom and dad said I saved them because I was
whinnying and kicking the walls. I was the one that woke them up. If I didn’t do that my mom and dad wouldn’t be here today.
Xoxo Sheeba

(Photo my right eye is still there my swollen lids just make it look like it’s not).

First off, thank you everyone for your donations! Her skin is starting to slough (she off). The good news is there is healthy tissue below the areas that have already done so. She is much more comfortable. Her breathing has also improved to where she doesn't need the nebulizer. We still have a long way to go and every dollar helps!
Thank you everyone for your continued support!

Sheeba update
9/25/2021

Sheeba went without her ketamine CRI yesterday for several hours and they put her back on because she wasn’t as comfortable as they liked. She was better when they put her back on it. She has a fever today, which is not unexpected with all the tissue damage that she sustained. Her CBC (complete blood count which monitors her red blood cells and white cells) is normal though.

Update on Sheeba. She remains stable and her appetite continue so improve. She’s lost some skin on her head, but so far her trunk and pectoral regions are swollen but holding. She really enjoys her nebulizer so we’re increasing that to 3 or 4 times daily.  Not out of the woods by any means, but at least she’s stable and doing well.
