🏋️ ✨️Wellness is Movement. Movement is Freedom. ✨️🧘♂️
The Idaho Wellness Project was not created by policy makers or outsiders. It began with the men inside—residents who, facing the weight of their past deeds and carrying lifetimes of trauma, chose accountability and the hard work of change.
They built S.H.I.F.T. — the Self Help Initiative For Truth — a program of structure, healing, integrity, fitness, and transformation. It was born from necessity: the need to create safety in an environment that often strips it away, the need to learn how to talk instead of fight, and the need to practice being better sons ~ brothers ~ fathers ~ partners ~ husbands ~ men ~ members of society.
One of those men was asked what freedom meant to him. His answer was simple, but profound: “Freedom is movement.” With a background in physical education he understood that movement wasn’t just about stepping beyond the gates — it was about mental health, healing, and discipline. Inside, he saw how urgently men needed true exercise, to release stress, regulate anger, and build healthier coping skills.

Why This Matters
According to the Compassion Prison Project, nearly every incarcerated individual has experienced at least one Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE), and more than three-quarters carry four or more. Trauma rewires the brain and body, leaving behind scars of anger, mistrust, and poor coping skills. Trauma fuels poor health, poor decision making, and cycles that too often end in prison.
But trauma is not destiny. The men who built S.H.I.F.T. chose a different path. Through exercise, peer support, communication circles, and accountability, they are beginning to rebuild their mental strength and discipline. They are creating a space where men are learning how to cope without reverting to violence, speaking honestly and openly about depression and PTSD, and supporting one another in becoming better men.
---
Our Commitment
The Idaho Wellness Project exists to honor that vision. We are committed to walking alongside men who are genuinely ready for change — men who know the way they lived no longer works. Almost 98% of incarcerated men in Idaho will one day return to the community. The question is not whether they return, but how they return: broken and angry, or stronger and prepared.
Wellness is not a luxury. It is safety. For staff, it means calmer facilities. For families, it means healthier reunions. For Idaho, it means lower recidivism, safer communities, and men who return home not just free, but whole.

Our Vision
To confront trauma with healing.
To build strength through movement and accountability.
To help men return as healthier members of society.
To make Idaho safer through wellness, responsibility, and hope.
The Idaho Wellness Project stands as a wellness initiative rooted in accountability, built on movement, and inspired by the voices of men who desire change.
~ The Idaho Wellness Project is hoping to raise $3,700 to build a secure outdoor gym, supporting their journey toward resilience, hope, and safer communities. All funds raised will be used soley for the outdoor gym project. Every single dollar matters — and you can give anonymously, if you wish. 💛💪
** Idaho Wellness Project is the name of the fundraiser for loved ones who are currently incarcerated, this fundraiser is being run by family members so that we can achieve the shared goal at this time - getting gym equipment for them **
