My name is Pauline and I live in Baltimore City (US). Moamen has been covering this gen 0 side, heavily on instagram, and has documented some truly unimaginable horrors with which the public needs to reckon. Read more below about how this activist redistributes funds to his North Gazan community and family and is a true pillar of selflessness. His dream like most Pal. folks surviving the gen 0 side is to one day evacuate and find peace.
Moamen Hemaid has been an independent reporter for many years. He is not paid by any news organization, but rather has devoted his life to activism out of love for his people and for Palestine. He is also a full-time caregiver for his mother, Faiza, who has many health issues, including diabetes, heart arrhythmia, and osteoporosis. Often risking his life walking many kilometers through occupation- controlled sectors to find insulin and heart medications for her in bombed-out pharmacies, Moamen has devoted himself to her care.
At almost 38 years old, Moamen is the 2nd youngest of 7. When the "ceasefire" went into effect early this year, the rest of his family returned north to Gaza City to join them, bringing their children and their children's children. Moamen now finds himself responsible for almost 40 people, including his eldest brother, Mohammed, who is disabled with a broken pelvis and a serious head injury, requiring round-the-clock care.
Having suffered numerous injuries himself throughout the genocide, including a broken jaw and shattered teeth, Moamen has always prioritized his family and community over his own medical care, often using funds sent for his own treatment to buy food and water
for his neighbors.
The family has been displaced over 30 times now but throughout the genocide, Moamen and his parents have remained firm that they will stay in the north even if it means their death. Despite this, Moamen dreams of one day leaving Gaza and being able to see the world.
"All I want is to Live in security
All I want is to not lose anyone around
me,
because what we lost is enough.
All want is for us to find a place where the family can gather,
neither lost nor missing.
What I live every day and what I hold in my hands is impossible to imagine, not with mind or human power."
