In May of 2020 my nephew, Aidan O'neil suffered for many weeks with pain in his back and legs. His doctor insisted it was growing pains. After no relief, and symptoms worsening to the point of Aidan barely being able to walk his parents took him to the hospital. After having an MRI the doctors discovered a tumor on his spinal cord. They immediately rushed him into surgery to try to remove the tumor. His parents feared the worst. In June of 2020 he was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma "a rare and aggressive form of cancer that affects only 200 children in the United States each year".

Aidan and his mom spent many full weeks for several months at the hospital so that Aidan could receive treatment which included chemotherapy, and radiation. Finally, in April, 2021 Aidan was given the all clear.... the doctors couldn't detect any cancer cells. However, there was not much relief... or as much as we hoped, as this type of cancer has a very high risk of returning. Many children with Ewing Sarcoma do have a reoccurrence or develop another form of cancer within a short time span.

Moving forward, Aidan continued to be scanned every 3-6 months.

In April 2022, Aidan was having pain in his hip, and in early May the doctors wanted to run additional tests. The doctors delivered devastating news to Tom and Mary. Aidan's cancer had returned. Not only had the tumor in the original site re-appear, but they found lesions on his hip, femur, and pelvis. Aidan has undergone countless chemotherapy sessions, had to have another surgery on his spinal cord, and is now receiving radiation. The doctors have confirmed that the tumor looks fuller on his spine and are looking to have Aidan go to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia "CHOP" for a study.

So many people ask, "What can I do?" and there is no easy answer. Prayers are most appreciated, and sometimes that is all we can do. However, I wanted to put this fundraiser together in hopes of relieving some/ any of the financial burden. Mary and Tom live in Vernon, New Jersey. They will be traveling to Philadelphia, PA in the coming months. I am hoping to raise some funds to assist with whatever they may need "Fuel, meals, hotels, doctor bills". Every little bit helps whether it is $5.00 or $50.00.

Please Pray for Aidan, my sister, and brother in law, and his two younger brothers. If you can, please donate, or share this fundraiser.

The outpouring of love and support has been so amazing.

We all thank you from the bottom of our hearts to the moon.

Hello all,

I know it's been a while since I've posted an update here. I'm really not great at this, and I do apologize.

Aidan and his family could use some extra prayers right now. He is in the hosptal with a collapsed lung. I don't have details as far as exactly what happened, but please take a moment if you can to send prayers of healing.

Aidan continues to amaze everyone. He is such a fighter. He continues to get his scans, as well as treatment. He never complains. He has been having a lot of pain in his leg for quite a while. The Dr's can't seem to pinpoint what is causing it. He uses crutches to get around as it is to painful to walk without them. He has started physical therapy, and we are all praying that this helps.

There have been additional spots of concern, including one on the lung. The original site of the tumor is still showing activity. The Dr's are keeping a close eye, and continue to rescan. The spot on the lung has seemed to improve.

This has been such a rough road for Aidan, and his family.

He did have an amazing 17th birthday party a couple of weeks ago. Here is a picture of him, and his beautiful family on his very special day.

Thank you as always for your prayers and continued support.

Hello,

I know it's been a while since I've last posted. 😞

Aidan has been on the oral chemotherapy for a while. He did need to pause as he was getting awful blisters on the bottoms of his feet, which is a side affect of this form of chemotherapy. It's been a few weeks, and the blisters are healing. He's been going to school, and trying to get back to some form of normalcy. He is having more pain in his back, and received more scans today.

Please continue to pray, and send positive vibes his way.

He was granted a wish by Make a wish, and will be going to Hawaii in early May. I can't wait to see his beautiful smile enjoying such a wonderful place. I will try to share the photos here.

Thank you all for your continued support. 🙏❤️🙏❤️

Hello Friends and Family,

Since my last post, there have been some changes, and I wanted to give Mary, Tom, and this kids some time to absorb it, and let the dust settle. I am sure a lot of you have seen Mary’s post on Facebook in early February. For those who have not, Aidan’s oncology team, as well as the doctors from CHOP and Sloan have come to the conclusion that although treatment has shown response on Aidan’s hip, and femur; the tumor on his spine has not responded at all and has also grown. The doctors feel that this cancer will not be cured. They’ve decided on a treatment/ chemotherapy to take at home that will allow Aidan to go to school, spend time with family, and friends instead of going to CHOP, and sitting in a hospital bed unwell.

Per Mary:

“He has missed out on the last 3 years fighting this. As tough as he is I know how hard it has been to see all of the things he's missed out on or wasn't able to be a part of. This is not to say we are giving up! We have to believe that miracles happen every day or I don't know how I could go through this! We will always fight this with everything we have and pray that something works and will give him time to live the life he dreams of!

Thank you so much to everyone who has been there for us along the way, our friends, family, and even people we don't know. There just is no way to be able to thank you all in a way that could express how much it means to us. We feel beyond blessed by all of your support, generosity, and love. Please continue to pray for Aidan.”

Donnie, and I also thank you from the bottom of our hearts. It truly is overwhelming to see so much support. We can NEVER thank you enough.

I will not close out this fundraiser even though we’ve exceeded the goal.

Please continue to share it, pray for Aidan, his parents, and brothers.

I will also stay on to post updates.

Love, Lauren
