Hi friends,

My name is Amanda aka “Twitty”, and this is my sweet boy, Boogie aka “Boogie Man”, aka “Boogerton woogerton”, aka “Boogie Woog”, “Booger butt”, or my favorite “my sweet handsome”. Boogie is my 6 year old Corgi and for all intents and purposes, he’s my baby. He’s been by my side through my greatest triumphs, my most tragic losses (including that of my father, stepmother, and grandmother for which he had an amazing relationship with all), and everything in between. My point being, Boogie is more than my furry companion, he’s my constant through this ever changing world, my calm in every storm (even though he HATES thunder lol), my reminder to turn toward softness when things happen, and simply put - he’s my Boogie.

A few days ago, Boogie was playing his favorite game, fetch, when I saw that he suddenly dropped and was not able to walk without whining, and he couldnt bear weight on his back left leg. After an immediate vet visit, they determined that he had torn his back left ACL/CCL. Given the fact that Boogie is a corgi, unfortunately he is genetically predisposed to this type of injury. I thought I had prepared myself for such instances by starting a pet insurance policy. Though, as fate would have It, Boogie injured himself within a couple days of me having just got this policy, which has a 14-day waiting period stating that any accident or injury that occurs within that timeframe is outside coverage - meaning any cost that goes towards treating his torn CCL, will not be covered by his insurance.

With all that said and per the recommendations of his veterinary team (who knows Boogie extremely well as he has required a lot of care in the past several years including near paralysis after a recent neck injury which luckily didn’t require surgery), he will be undergoing a TPLO surgery August 15th and prior to then will require PT services to insure a healthy surgical outcome and to protect the integrity of his other hind leg - the Vet has informed me that without PT and surgery It is likely that this injury will not heal well, It will result in extremely painful arthritis as he ages, and will negatively impact his ability to walk/play/run - which is basically a dogs entire life! It’s also likely that without such treatment, Boogie’s healthy leg will also suffer the same injury due to the strain It will sustain as his injured one heals.

His upcoming surgery was quoted to cost $5000-$6000 which covers prep for surgery, anesthesia, the procedure itself, and post-op care. His PT is projected to cost $200-$300 per session with at least 1-2 sessions per week for a minimum of 6 weeks aka just about 3K - though I am paying for his PT out of pocket and am only seeking help to cover his surgery. In these harsh economic times, I know we are all feeling the weight of that. But It is my hope that with the help of my community, my family, and my friends, that my sweet Boogie won’t have to suffer due to the weight of this cost. I know this is a big ask, so please understand that I am humbled by you even considering to give assistance and every dollar makes an impact.

I want to clearly express that it’s extremely hard for me to even write these words because to ask for help does not come easily to me. I am someone who has dedicated my life to helping children and their families every single day, so to be the one on the other side requiring It, is difficult to say the least. So, from the bottom of my heart - thank you - for your compassion, your attention, your time, and your engagement. I thank you and Boogie thanks you 🫶

Thank you all so much for your donations. Over half of Boogie’s goal was reached. His surgery was completed on August 15th and he is home recovering. At this point in the process he will continue with PT weekly, medication management for pain/inflammation, strict rest and movement restrictions, and a follow up visit with his surgeon for X-rays in 2-3 weeks. It will take him 4 months to fully recover and I am extremely hopeful for the best possible outcomes.
