In the city of Chisinau, Moldova, there is a young woman who has autism.
Her name is Tanya, and she is about 30 years old. She is in a very difficult situation with no one to help her.
She is unable to find employment in her city as she has been turned down everywhere.
For many years, she has been living with her mother, who suffers from severe schizophrenia in its final stage. Her mother spends whole days lying down and does nothing, leaving the apartment in a state of disarray. She poses a constant threat to Tanya, verbally abuses her, and can become physically violent. She often hides food and refuses to eat or feed her own daughter.
Tanya is unable to do anything about this situation because she is autistic, making her a helpless individual vulnerable to challenging life circumstances.
As a result, Tanya has nothing to eat, no means to buy medication, and no resources to purchase clothing. She has always tried to find work, taking on courier jobs and doing whatever she can to survive.
Additionally, last year she broke her leg. The fracture was atypical, near the joint, and local doctors were unable to diagnose it for an entire month. During that time, she had to walk on the broken leg as best as she could. As a result, she had to spend a year at home, unable to move, and underwent two operations, enduring excruciating pain that was not relieved even by strong painkillers.
Currently, Tanya walks with a crutch and is unable to climb stairs. She has lost sensation in her leg. Naturally, she can no longer work as a courier. However, she still needs to live and receive medical treatment.
When her mother experiences schizophrenic episodes, Tanya retreats to live in a garage.
Tanya needs special orthopedic footwear because she developed a heel spur on her right foot from jumping on it while her left leg was in a cast. Now, walking is painful on both legs.
In addition to that, she needs rehabilitation and preliminary examinations, which require money. She has to use public transportation for the examinations, which is also a significant problem. Even if the bus is low-floor accessible, Tanya cannot get on it by herself and needs assistance. Taxi drivers often refuse to take her when they see her condition.
Tanya cannot use crutches under her arms because her right collarbone was broken in childhood, making it impossible to put weight on her arm or rely on it.
In her hometown of Chisinau, no one cares about people with autism, and they are left to fend for themselves. Please, let us not abandon someone in need. Let's help her together in any way we can.
