In my eyes, Greta is Wonder Woman. She would give you the shirt off her back and invite you to stay awhile. I know we say that about a lot of people, but truly, Greta is the most selfless person I know. She and Trey, her husband, have fostered many children, and they are currently raising a foster daughter as their own. Their foster stories are both heartbreaking and inspirational. I met Greta at a point in her life where she wanted to work on herself. She met Jesus and was ready to work on some old wounds. I watched Greta go from a shy, uncertain of herself woman, to a bold, confident, strong woman. Literally, she got in the best shape of her life. Landed a great job dispatching for the GSP. Her experience as a dispatcher inspired her to apply and get accepted to the Georgia State Patrol Trooper School. She was one of six or seven women in the whole group. Talk about awesome!
Life, as it often does, threw a wrench in things when Greta discovered she had an aggressive cancer. She has been battling that cancer for three years now. But she didn’t allow it to get in her way. After an enjoyable time with the GSP, Greta transitioned to the Oconee County Sheriff’s Department to become a resource officer. She has touched the lives of students and parents alike.
This stupid cancer has taken its toll on Greta and her family, financially & emotionally. As well all know, sick leave and insurance never cover all the costs. If you have been impacted by Greta the person, Greta the First Responder, Greta the loving human, I ask you to give today. After this past surgery, she has another long road of recovery. What a blessing it would be if she and Trey could focus more on her healing than on making ends meet.
