Hello. My name is Heather. A lot of my followers on here know my story, but for those who don't, let me tell you.
I spent 2 months in the hospital with cellulitis in my leg and my left lung was full of pneumonia. To the point that when I went into the hospital I was coughing up blood and my oxygen level had dropped to 85% and my lips were turning purple. My leg was swollen to 3 times the size of what it normally should be. It took 4 weeks of IV meds and 3 weeks of oral meds to get rid of both infections. While I was in the hospital I couldn't walk on my leg and I didn't receive much physical therapy, so my muscles in my legs atrophied, leaving me unable to walk. I was transferred to a nursing home where I was supposed to be getting physical therapy, but once I was there I was treated horribly. They left me to piss on myself multiple times, yelled at me for having to change my gown and sheets when I did pee myself, told me if I wasn't so lazy I could get up and use the bathroom instead of having to ask for a bedpan etc,.. Mind you, my legs don't work. So, I ended up signing myself out and coming home. My doctor dropped me as a patient shortly after and since I only have Medicaid it's been a struggle to find a new doctor since.
While I was in the hospital I also lost my job. I have been applying like crazy for some work at home jobs, but nothing has come through yet.
The reason I'm here asking for help is because I have been stuck in this bed and in my room for 9 months. I do have a bedside commode, I'm able to sit up and stretch, wash myself etc,.., but I cannot stand. I desperately need a wheelchair to start getting around my house. These 4 walls are driving me mad. The depression is so bad I've thought of ending my life. I am a prisoner in these 4 walls, a prisoner in my own life. At least if I could get a wheelchair I could get some freedom.
I also need help getting my heat back on before winter. I live in Illinois and it gets pretty cold here and I do have kids and we need heat. I will be applying to see if I can get assistance to get it back on, but the bill is so high they may not pay it, so I need a backup plan.
I also just honestly need some funds to survive until a job comes through. I get $98 a month in food stamps which doesn't even buy a week's worth of food. There are times that we go 3-4 days without eating. I will also be applying for disability, but as most of you know that takes a while to get approved. Please, if you can help at all I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you for reading.
