Most know for a little over 2 years dads health has continued to decline. He broke his neck May 2024 and has battled every day since the accident. I have been his sole primary caregiver. He is now in end stage renal failure. We thought he was having mini strokes last week and was taken to the ER, July 23rd. He was admitted and it was determined to be Uremic Encephalopathy mimicking stroke symptoms. He lost a lot of strength in his right side. He had strep. The fistula they installed in April for dialysis still isnt mature enough to use. They tried but had to stop for fear of blowing the vein/artery connection. They instead did a procedure to place a cath in his chest for immediate dialysis access and took him straight from recovery to his first treatment. He was in treatment until 10:45pm that day. He is currently still in the hospital with the intention of being discharged, not home to me, but to a skilled nursing facility for rehab to try and regain strength that he lost during the episode, before he can return home. He starts his dialysis schedule this week, he will be seen Mon, Wed & Fri every week for approx 5hr treatments. Many know, I was laid off from my job at the end of Jan and have been struggling to find a replacement position with his needs medical growing rapidly. I have been doing Doordash, UberEats, Grubhub etc delivery services every hour that I can be away from him & whilehe sleeps overnight. About a month or so ago, I was on a delivery at 3am and hit a deer with my little SUV causing a coolant leak and rendering it non-driveable. Thankfully I have dads pickup truck but dad cannot get in it so I cannot take him to his appointments. I have had to rely on the goodness of my amazing neighbors that have lent me their vehicle to take him to his many Dr Apts. With his medical bills continuing to grow, expenses increased & now being down a vehicle, I am in need of help getting my car fixed and getting things back on track. I will not be able to get him to dialysis without my vehicle. I am trying to make plans to move dad to Arkansas with my brother to get help with his care but that will take some time and we need to get Dad started on dialysis before we can move him so we do not delay care. I am so grateful for all the help we have already received and I am absolutely ashamed that I am once again asking for help. But I am working myself to death doing deliveries to barely scrape by, utilizing food pantries when available and doing everything I can to get by. By moving him to Arkansas we can start looking for a care facility that will be able to better take care of him now that his medical needs have grown past what I am able to provide and will allow me to accept a job without so many schedule limits. If anyone is able to donate to get my car fixed and help me get dads medicine and make some copays, I would be forever grateful.
