We are a family living in San Francisco, California who have formed a private sponsorship group to provide a safe and welcoming experience for my sister Huruya and her 3 kids to enter and resettle in the United States through Welcome Corps, a U.S State department program for everyday Americans to sponsor refugees in their local communities.
Refugees sponsored through Welcome Corps meet the definition of a refugee under U.S law and arrive with refugee status and a legal path to permanent residency.
My sister has been living in Egypt in a refugee camp since 2019 with her 3 children, under dire conditions. This program will help us bring her and her family to the United States, securing initial housing, helping her find employment and enrolling the children in school. We are hoping to raise enough money to sponsor her and her kids.
100% of the funds we receive will be spend on supporting the family start-up and living expenses during their transition to independence in our community. Unfortunately, Welcome Corps is not able to provide receipts for charitable contributions. While you may not receive a tax benefit for your charitable gift, your generosity will greatly help change my sister's life and her family.
