         Women’s Sports

                           Why I chose this topic

I wanted to do this because I'm passionate about sports and I care about equality. When I play a professional sport, I don't want this to happen to me. Sports are my life, and I don't want everybody to go through the unfairness a lot of women had to go through.

               Unfairness in women’s sports

Have you ever thought about it? Or even cared? But if you will, let me dive deeper into it. Women’s sports are way better than before, but there’s still a lot of holes. Men get more. Men get more respect, money, attention, etc. Women have to go through it the hard way. Why is that? Is it the height, the arrogance, or just because. No. It’s because they were “meant” to clean the house, be a mom, and they were fragile, and weren't “meant” to be competitors. But over time that’s changed. Women took a stand. They put their foot down. What was the point of life if they couldn't do what they loved. Billie Jean King was the first woman to take a stand in the 1970. She cared. Do you care?

                                     Sports Channels

When you go on a sports channel what do you see? Men’s sports or women's sports. Men's sports always pop up first. I use ESPN for my sports channel. Once, I searched up PWHL (Profesional women’s hockey league) and all I got was people interviewing women’s hockey players. I also got a couple of highlights of some random games from a different year.

                                Men get more money

Did you know men get paid more than women? Men get paid 18% more than women this year. Back then it was worse. Back then women didn't even get to play. And even if they did play, they probably wouldn't have gotten much money or no money at all. Women don't get the same money as men do. It hasn't changed since last year. The difference between men and women's pay amount over time has gotten smaller, but not much smaller.

It’s time to take a stand

To conclude, did you know that once men were considered better than women? It’s not fair. How can adults help? How can kids help? How can you help? Organizations can help by giving women the same amount of money, show women's sports and men's sports first on a sports channel, and take time to look and see how good women are, etc. Kids can take a stand by making fundraisers to support them, talk to someone you know that has a sports organization and tell them about someone who plays a women's sports, etc. It’s time for women to get what they deserve. It’s time to take a stand.
