Ksenia is a single Ukrainian (refugee) mom with a 2 year old living in Marin, who really needs a car to get to work, attend her English lessons, and take her daughter to childcare across town every day. Let’s rally together as a community and help this sweet mom rebuild her life!
We are reaching out to the community and seeking either a donated car (we can provide a tax receipt from our nonprofit if you have one to donate!) or monetary donations to help her purchase an inexpensive used one. Please help Ksenia!
Background: Ksenia was a certified masseuse, living in Ukraine with a good life, before the war broke out. Because of the war, Ksenia fled to the US, seeking safety for her daughter. A morally corrupt American woman living in the South Bay sponsored Ksenia to come to the US through the humanitarian parole/Ukrainian refugee program for victims fleeing the war (U4U) , and brought her into her home with the promise of a safe home and a good job at her company (which never happened). Instead, this woman stole Ksenia ‘s benefits, hit her daughter, and when Ksenia tried to protect her daughter from the abuse, she threw her out on the street. Through a program at a local Marin church, who provided her with temporary housing, she landed back on her feet and has just moved into an apartment. She’s working hard to save money and pay her rent, little by little rebuilding her life.
Ksenia wants to continue her profession as a masseuse, but due to the fact that she has a heavy massage table to lug around when she visits her private massage clients, it’s extremely difficult to walk or take public transportation with her supplies in hand, so the next step in rebuilding her life and finding more employment is helping her get a car so that she can work efficiently, and independently pay her bills and support her daughter.
Sweet Ksenia had a very difficult journey before finally arriving in Marin in mid December. Here’s Ksenia’s story:
My name is Ksenia, I am 30 years old and have a two-year-old daughter, Miriam. We are from the Odessa region (Ukraine). I had a good life and had the support of my family in Ukraine. I worked as a masseur and an administrator in a hostel, since I don’t have a profession with a diploma, and was able to care for my child. When the war began, we didn’t go anywhere, in the hope that everything would end soon. We were afraid to fly somewhere without money, but it was more terrible every day because explosions were constantly heard and people were leaving the country en masse. Everywhere were traffic jams, people with clogged cars and one morning a rocket flew into a neighboring village and I just thought that something needed to be done. After this, my sister and I decided we must leave, so we traveled to Moldova, Romania, Austria, Hungary, and finally Germany, but when we stopped in Germany, we were separated. Her family was in a village in Germany and suddenly Miriam and I were alone and they were unable to help us. My uncle flew to Canada with his wife and they told me let's also stay there together. I applied for a visa to go to Canada and waited for a very long time, and at this moment from America a woman online proposed to become my sponsor in California. She told me that she was completely ready to give us a year of support and at that time teach me programming and give me a job in her company. We arrived on October 27 and everything in the beginning was great, until we got some problems with this girl; she began to hate, she hit my daughter, I found bruises on her, and one evening she kicked us out suddenly and put us on the street. We had nowhere to go. That day I called a church in San Rafael, who agreed to give me shelter that day until I could find a job and a place to live. I am so grateful to this church, and for any help you can give to me. Thank you!
