I created this for my dad because of so many of you who care and ask how you can still help. I think it will be easier for me and my family to do it this way. We are NOT expecting anything but many people want to show kindness and give to help ease some of the burdens. The ONLY thing we truly ask for are your prayers!β€οΈπŸ™πŸΌ

It has been a hard year for my family. Dad (Bruce) fell and tore every ligament in his left knee on January 8th. We lost our sweet, beloved Devon who was a daughter, sister, wife, dog mama and the most giving, wonderful, best friend on February 9th. Dad went in on May 20th for surgery to repair nerve damage on his left knee from when he fell, went home later that day. The next morning he had pain around his belly button and below, my dad and my mom both thought it was due to constipation, which can happen due to anesthesia. The pain got worse, and an ambulance was called, my dad then went into emergency surgery that night for a perforated bowel. He now unfortunately is left with a colostomy bag that may be in place for a year before another surgery to remove it will be needed. He has not left the hospital since May 21st and his discharge date due to complications keeps getting pushed back. My sweet mom has been in with him every day, multiple times a day except for only one day since he has been in. As of today, June 1st they are now saying he may be in the hospital for another three weeks. He has a wound vac in place.

His bladder was cut during the emergency surgery so that is one of the complications he is also dealing with. We pray for complete healing of his body, for rest and sleep as well as his pain level to improve.

The cut to the bladder that happened (and was repaired) during the first emergency surgery (another surgery was needed on May 27th) is now draining urine into the abdominal cavity and not out the way it should go. He had a new catheter placed yesterday (May 31), after they removed the original catheter the day before. Everything was fine until they removed it and my mom saw the words "inadvertently removed" in a report. They say he is not a good candidate for more surgery at this time because of all the damage to the abdominal lining from everything that was done so far and also infection. However, if this doesn't start to resolve with the measures done so far, they may have too.

Spirits are low, anxiety and exhaustion is high, but we must keep the faith that God IS working and has reason for all of this. One day (or moment) at a time. God is still good!

Finally πŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌ after 3 weeks and 2 days he is out of York Hospital and in a rehab hospital. He will need to be there for approximately 2-3 weeks but he said he feels God is doing great work in him. We continue to thank you all so much for your support and prayers! He still has a long road ahead of him but we have faith in our Heavenly Father!❀️

Bruce is feeling better and gaining strength. Things are healing but it’s very slow, at least to us. He is still anemic too, which causes its own set of symptoms that impede his abilities.

He may be released to intensive rehab next week, pending his evaluation on Monday. One step at a time!

6/9

After 2 good days he had another setback. Was sick overnight and the CT showed an abscess in his intestine. The plan is to aspirate it and do cultures to see which antibiotic will work best. Thank you for your continued prayers!

The other issues remain and are slowly healing. As of now, it will be Friday before he could possibly go to a rehab hospital. Once there, it will be another 2-3 weeks till he can come home. Again, thank you so much for all your support and prayers!!🩷

Sorry it’s gonna be long but here is an update ❀️:

6/2
Better today pain wise. Got some good sleep yesterday.
The wound vac is still emptying urine from his abdomen but it’s ok. It’s sterile enough not to cause issues and the catheter is starting to work so it will take as long as it takes to heal. 3 weeks for both wound vac and catheter is the current timeline.
The one surgeon Dr. Pierre was in again today and his incision was repacked and she put a few stitches in his ostomy to try to get it to pop up again. Right now it’s receded and that’s not what they want. She will check on him again and also in the morning and she will call me with updates and so I can ask any questions. She’s awesome!

6/3
God is hearing our prayers and he is making forward progress πŸ™
We are continuing to pray that his bladder heals and stops filling up his abdomen, that the infection leaves his body and his body heals as it should. Also the stoma (where the intestine comes out for emptying into the colostomy bag) is receding and cannot be repaired through surgery for the same reasons they can’t go in and surgically repair the bladder again. His abdominal lining is very frail from all the recent cutting and the infection.
He feels better today though and slept the most last night since he’s been in. We celebrate the little victories as they come!
