"We don't heal broken people. We awaken sleeping Champions."
My name is Larry Wayne Bennett. I am a survivor. I have been homeless on the streets of Galveston. I have slept on cots at the Salvation Army. I have been addicted, incarcerated, and told I was too broken to be loved.
I have also published multiple books while navigating housing instability. I have built a curriculum used by survivors around the world. I have started a global community called Black Sheep Roar.
And now I am building something that has never been built before.
The Gravy Boat Complex (GBC).
What is the Gravy Boat Complex?
The Gravy Boat Complex is America's first comprehensive trauma-informed social enterprise ecosystem. It is not a shelter. It is not a treatment center. It is a 24/7 economic engine for human resurrection.
We will have:
The Pew – A 24-hour sanctuary for night owls, insomniacs, and trauma survivors. Coffee. Food. Workspace. Safety. No judgment. Ever. (I was a night auditor. I know what it feels like to be treated as a criminal just because I was awake when the world slept.)
The Pulpit – A professional recording studio and art space where survivors become content creators, musicians, and artists. Artists keep 70% of what they make.
Still Waters – Professional trauma counseling for survivors who cannot afford therapy elsewhere.
Crescendo Vox – A speaking agency that turns survivor voices into paid corporate keynotes and conference speaking.
Safe Harbor Housing – Stable housing, because housing is a human right, not an earned privilege.
The Anchor – Legal advocacy for reentering citizens, record expungement, and civil rights restoration.
Anchor Heroes Academy – Recovery and champion development. "We don't heal broken people. We awaken sleeping Champions."
A "Lone" Star Outreach – Bringing digital literacy and human connection to isolated elderly and incarcerated individuals.
Why Galveston?
Because Galveston is where I survived. Because Galveston has a growing population of unhoused individuals, reentering citizens, and marginalized people who fall through every crack. Because this city has the heart to do something different.
And because I am still here. Building. Believing.
Where does your money go?
We are in the vision and building phase. Your donations will fund:
NeedAmountLaunch The Rapids (crisis stabilization)10,000–10,000–20,000Launch Safe Harbor Housing (first 5-10 units)30,000–30,000–50,000Incorporation and fiscal sponsorship2,000–2,000–5,000A "Lone" Star Outreach mobile capacity5,000–5,000–10,000
Every dollar goes directly to building the GBC. I am not taking a salary. My Board serves without compensation. This is a labor of resurrection.
What we have already accomplished (with almost nothing)
Published the four-volume Kingdom of One textbook series (available on Amazon)
Published The Foundation of Broken Things (Book One of the Gravy Boat Trilogy)
Built Black Sheep Roar – a global Facebook community of over 800 survivors
Seated two professional Board members
Brought on a psychiatrist
Appointed an Executive Assistant
Imagine what we can do with actual funding.
The Philosophy
"We don't heal broken people. We awaken sleeping Champions."
The Gravy Boat Complex is named after a poem I wrote in a jail cell while facing life imprisonment. A poem about a gravy boat sitting among fine china—awkward, different, out of place—until it realized the banquet cannot function without it.
You are not broken. You are a gravy boat. The feast needs you.
Join us.

Or give what you can. Every dollar matters.
The Closing Declaration
"The table is set. Your seat is waiting. We don't heal broken people. We awaken sleeping Champions. The wilderness spoke first. I wrote it down. Now we build it together."
Thank you for believing that broken vessels can become seaworthy again.
With gratitude and determination,
Larry Wayne Bennett
