As the world watched, Hurricane Ian devastated Florida. Our daughter, her husband, two toddlers (one with some special needs) and dog were in an evacuation zone, and thankfully were able to make it to safety before the storm hit. However, they had to wait several days to get back home and learn the extent of damage the home they are renting suffered due to Ian.

Upon their return, they discovered that you can stand in their hallway and see the sky of you are looking through their attic, the leaks created throughout the house have caused mold and mildew to grow in every room, and the water caused damage to their flooring that caused it to separate and buckle. Unbeknownst to them until this event, their renters insurance lapsed, and the homeowners/landlord were out of the country at the time of the event, unable to begin their claims process until their return.

However, it has been determined that insurance will not cover their losses due to the storm or a place for them to live in the meantime. They have spent all their savings on hotels and necessities, and those funds have now run out as well.  Due to their evacuation travel and a lack of reliable childcare my son-in-law lost his job upon returning home, causing further hardship for their family. Their landords have indicated they would let them out of their lease with no notice and no penalty, and are trying to clean up the space as much as they can waiting for insurance to come out just to assess the damages. They, too, can only do so much.

We live in Central Indiana and have a place they can live if we can get them here. The money we are trying to raise will be enough to rent a small uhaul truck to salvage what they can of their belongings, as well as cover gas and expenses for travel like food and a one-night stay in a hotel, as the trip is too long for the two little ones to tolerate without breaking it up. Any help you could provide would be appreciated beyond measure; the sooner we can relocate them, where we can help them start over and offer our time and help so they can builds  new healthy environment for their family to live again. We are only asking for the bare minimum to get them here, but appreciate all that can be donated.

Thank you to everyone that has been calling, texting, asking how you can help. here is the fundraiser we have been using for that purpose. We are a week into this fundraiser and know we can reach the goal so they can get out of Florida. They have had to leave the hotel and go back to the "Mold Home" (This is what I call it) until we can raise enough for them to pack up and head out. I dont want to be too dramatic but an example of how bad it has been for them, Emersyn has actually gotten sick before from being around mold and had to go to hospital. So he is very sensitive to that kind of environment. The least amount of time they have to be there, the better.
