I am creating this on behalf of my mother. She underwent a colectomy (colon removal) after being diagnosed with Lynch Syndrome (MSH6 gene mutation). Her colon was covered in precancerous polyps that could become malignant at any point in time. On July 14th, she had a colectomy without an ileostomy (bag), which seemed to be successful… 3 days later, the surgery resulted in an anastomotic leak (feces had leaked into her abdominal cavity) and she became septic. She underwent an emergency surgery, which left an incision that is approximately 12 inches long (sternum to pubic area). Due to the severity of the surgery and her being so medically complex, they left the incision completely open on the outside (about 2.5 inches deep). She was hospitalized for 37 days due to the surgery itself and recurring infections, more specifically ESBL, which is antibiotic resistant. She is now home with me with 24 hour care (from me). She requires 2 daily antibiotics that I trained to give intravenously, wound care, and ostomy changes (urine and feces bags). She has been out of work since February due to her medical problems. And while she is resting and trying to heal, the world keeps spinning and bills still have to be paid. I do as much as I can to help with the bills and will continue to do so, but I also am a single mother to two small children who I have 100 percent of the time. All donations will go towards moms regular bills and any medical bills that may come her way. Please continue to pray for a full recovery. Thank you all so much, from the bottom of our hearts.
