I find myself sitting here not knowing what to write .... just knowing that I am here because I need to find a solution, and to be honest I NEED HELP.
My name is Jannette Jacobo, and recently I found myself researching a new way to transport my parents to medical appointments, and when we have family outings which is getting harder to do, sometimes it's a bit overwhelming, and a struggle with having to load, and unload a 40 pound wheelchair for myself a 5'3 lady.
My mother has always been the best mom in the whole world, despite getting poliomyelitis (a condition caused by a virus that caused her full body paralysis) at the age of 3 months due to the vaccine not being available, she over came it with lots of physical therapy when she lived at Shriner's hospital in Los Angeles. Despite all that she was able to birth me, and my sister. My mom was a full-time mom, and we were never left with a babysitter, she was a homemaker while my dad went to work at 3am. My mom always cleaned, cooked and took care of us day and night, in our eyes mom was never handicap, and others admire her for her willingness in life, and her upbeat attitude.
Throughout the years mom has developed other medical conditions like Diabetes, frozen shoulder, Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, High Blood Pressure, and about 2 weeks ago Cancer.
Hearing the word "Cancer" took a toll on our family, having to struggle getting her to more appointments on and off the car with all her diagnosis, and now her old age we are finding ourselves riding public transportation rain or shine on their schedule and having to pay higher fees for at door to door transportation.
As for my dad he has always been a working family man who unfortunately developed diabetes at the age of 13 and went un-diagnosed for years, now he is a type 1 diabetic with many medical conditions, but long story short he has had all toe amputated on one foot, and develops foot ulcers that have a hard time healing especially in hot weather, he visits the podiatrist and foot surgeon on a regular basis our worry is that his foot getting amputated and having 2 parents in wheelchairs, my dad does not drive due to his poor vision and circulation.
I know there's companies that help with adapted vans financing, but for right now it seems unreal, truth is we live paycheck to paycheck like most of us do but know that: Anything helps, I thank you GREATLY, and kindly in advance!
