On 11/01/24 I learned about 17 horses that were in danger of getting shipped to slaughter in Mexico. There were babies, pregnant mares and many other beautiful horses who needed immediate help. I worked hard to post their pictures on as many rescue sites as I could, and I also notified local rescues. Each day I checked the site and each day I saw more and more horses getting adopted!
It was working! People were stepping up to save these horses!
According to the auction house the deadline to rescue them was 11/9 by 2:00pm (closing time on Saturday) because the truck to Mexico was coming on Monday and they were closed on Sunday. Saturday morning, I checked the site, and to my horror there was still ONE BABY left at the auction. He was a little chestnut, yearling colt who had a mere 30 minutes to get rescued before it was too late.

I watched online as more and more people commented and were desperately trying to work together to save him. I told myself at the beginning of all of this that I couldn't get more involved than just helping place horses but at this point there was something about this little colt that simply wrecked my heart.
There have been times in my life when I have known someone truly needed help but I froze in fear instead of stepping out in love. Not helping them cost them their life and that is a mistake I NEVER want to make again. I didn't want this to be another one of THOSE stories. A story I would regret forever. A moment where I let fear take hold and I spent the rest of my life wondering, "what if?" What if I had done something?

SO, as the minutes passed, and time started to run out I took a leap of faith. I prayed and said, “If this little guy is meant to be mine and THIS is the horse that kick starts something beautiful in my community then somehow, in the next 30 minutes a miracle will happen and someone will pay his bail because I don't have the funds to that right now." With that, I posted on FB and I said, “If someone can pay his full bail, I will take him!” I didn’t expect anyone to take me up on that offer but to my surprise someone DID!
Within 10 seconds of writing that an angel in PA said, “Done!” and she paid to save this little colt! Tears started rolling down my cheeks. He was SAFE and horse-lovers from across the country united to help him.

Red made his great escape on 11/11 (Veterans Day 2024). This little guy was supposed to board a trailer to Mexico where he would meet a dark and brutal fate. Instead, his life was spared, and he was loaded onto a trailer that would take him to safety!

What amazes me is that I have always wanted to offer a place of healing via horses to my community (men, women, children) and to veterans. I believe that this little colt, the one who crossed from death to life on Veterans Day, is the start of a program just like that! I believe that he will go on to do great things for the people who live here and all over!
So, do YOU want to be a part of something beautiful?
If yes, will you join me in helping him?
He still needs us!
He made it out of the kill pen in the nick of time, but he still needs help.
